Developed by a team of language learning experts, Babbel has helped millions of people speak a new language with confidence. I am a few lessons form the end of the course and all I have gained is a small amount of vocab.Learn Spanish, French, Italian, German, and many more languages with Babbel. I feel like this course may be perfect for tourists who are learning the language from zero and need some phrases to get by, but Babbel claims it can make someone conversational. Finally, practice of general vocabulary is minimal, grammar is just barley touched on, and new grammar that appears in lessons is never explained. These lessons are no help to me here in Colombia as someone who lives and works here. ![]() It also feels as though about 1/3 of the lessons are about specific regional food and specific tourist locations (mainly in Mexico). For me this was unhelpful, as I am not interested in leaning European Spanish, that is not the course I took. They also include an entire course on the different words for the same items used in both rejoins. In the Latin American Spanish course they also include a lot of European pronunciations that are not helpful for someone trying to learn Latin American pronunciations. The app asks about your experience level before starting so I assumed the course would somehow adjust for this, that does not seem to be the case. Going into the course I already knew enough for basic conversation. Over promising and impractical (Latin American Spanish)īabbel was recommended to me for learning Spanish. 2) The support team need to provide ‘support’, ignoring a request for support is simply not adequate. This is seen within the industry as being bad practice. Therefore I have two big issues with Babbel 1) there should be advanced notice of impending renewal and not having this is deliberately designed to trick people into renewing inadvertently. I immediately raised my concern with the support team (I wanted to cancel and get a refund) and I have not had a response despite emailing twice. I forgot that I had a subscription and a renewal payment was taken from my credit card without any advanced notice. *** old post below ** BEWARE OF THE AUTORENEW! I used Babbel for a bit and then got bored with it and stopped using it. There was reference to ‘policy’ Ts&Cs etc, and I still maintain it would be fairer if notice of impending renewal was given, but at least this is resolved and the support team performed well. Once I used the correct email address I received a prompt response and a refund which I am delighted about. I did not realise this until the email bounced back a week later, hence my frustration with the lack of response. I had inadvertently used the wrong email address to contact the support team - I used ‘Babble’.com not. In the spirit of that I need to correct my initial review. *** An update given further developments *** I think it is important to be fair, transparent and accurate when reviewing a business - good or bad. ![]()
